Breathing new life into the beloved animated classic, this reimagining promises a sweeping adventure of courage, heritage, and the unbreakable bond between a wayfinder and the sea.
Auliʻi Cravalho returns to embody Moana, now bringing her to life on screen in a performance infused with warmth, wit, and fierce determination. When her island’s way of life is threatened by a mysterious blight, Moana must embark on a daring voyage across treacherous waters to restore the heart of Te Fiti and heal her people’s future.
Joining her is Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as the larger-than-life demigod Maui, his swagger and humor now even more palpable in live action. Cliff Curtis takes on the role of Chief Tui, a leader torn between tradition and change, while Rena Owen brings wisdom and grace as Gramma Tala, the spirit guide who reminds Moana to “listen to the ocean.”
The trailer bursts with breathtaking visuals—towering Polynesian cliffs drenched in golden sunlight, raging storms that test Moana’s resolve, and the mesmerizing shimmer of the ocean brought to life with groundbreaking visual effects. Cinematographer Mandy Walker captures every horizon with a painter’s touch, while composer Mark Mancina, alongside Opetaia Foa’i and Lin-Manuel Miranda, returns to weave an exhilarating score blending Pacific Islander rhythms with soaring orchestral swells.

Director Taika Waititi calls Moana: Live Action “a celebration of Polynesian culture, resilience, and the spirit of voyaging—crafted with the respect and authenticity it deserves.”
With its mix of heartfelt storytelling, cultural pride, and breathtaking spectacle, Moana: Live Action (2026) looks set to be one of Disney’s most visually stunning and emotionally resonant adaptations.
